A True Story By Mark Mardirossian
Mark Mardirossian recounts his life story in “I Did It: From Iraq to Freedom,” beginning with his family’s deep-rooted history in Iraq. His parents, Mike and Elisa, were Armenian Christians living in a society dominated by political instability and religious discrimination. His father, a former athlete with aspirations crushed by systemic prejudice, worked tirelessly for the government, while his mother endured the hardships of being a homemaker in a patriarchal society. As Mark grows up, he witnesses and experiences the brutal realities of life in Iraq. His family suffers economic and social hardships, compounded by the discrimination faced by Christians in a predominantly Muslim society. Political instability looms, with frequent regime changes affecting their security and future. However, it becomes clear that the Mardirossian family must leave Iraq after Mike’s arrest for suspicion of treachery.
